OPERATION SAFE SCHOOL ZONE CONTINUES TO SEE HIGH TRAFFIC INFRACTIONS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WEDNESDAY APRIL 15TH 2026

MILFORD – During the week of April 12, 2026, the Milford Police Department continued “Operation Safe School Zone”, a multi-week enforcement initiative targeting traffic violations that endanger students and commuters in school zones throughout Milford.

During school arrival and dismissal times on April 14, 2026, members of the Milford Police Department Special Operations Unit conducted focused traffic enforcement in several school zones. As a result of the operation, officers observed 65 traffic violations, resulting in 38 citations and one criminal application.

“When you look at the data and see more than 100 moving violations in just eight hours of focused enforcement, it highlights a lack of awareness the motoring public has for school zone safety.” said Milford Chief of Police Robert Tusino.

In addition to the violations observed, officers issued three e-bike citations to juvenile riders.

“Our goal with this operation is not to burden drivers with fines, but to educate the public and make Milford a safer place to travel,” said Chief Tusino. “However, we will continue to issue citations and pursue charges when necessary to ensure the safety of our community.”

MILFORD - On Monday March 23, 2026, the Milford Police Department began “Operation Safe School Zone”. The multi-week enforcement directive from Chief of Police Robert Tusino is designed to target traffic violators putting students and commuters at risk.

On the morning of March 23rd, the Milford Police Special Operations Unit focused on addressing traffic infractions at Milford High School, Stacy Middle School, Brookside Elementary School, Woodland Elementary School and Memorial Elementary School. After four hours, 46 separate traffic violations were observed, resulting in 24 citations and 4 criminal applications being issued.

“The first day of our operation was a success. However, this is not an initiative about cumulative citations to the public but an effort to educate through enforcement. We must do everything we can to keep our students and drivers safe.” Said Milford Chief of Police Robert Tusino

The Milford Police Department plans to continue Operation Safe School Zone on select days for the remainder of the school year.

“This is one facet of a larger operation to make Milford a safer place to commute. It’s well known that we have an on-going safety issue with E-Bikes. We will address that as well as this continues.”
